fisrt!Empty temp directory.
Don’t let your temporary directory fill with hundreds or even thousands of temporary files. When windows starts and when programs load these will be scanned and can then slow down your computer.
SO – you should empty this directory regularly to keep your performance optimal and to speed up your pc.You can find this under C:/ documents and settings, Administrator, Local Settings, Temp.

Empty your temporary internet files.
Go to your control panel and double click the internet options icon. Delete the cookies and delete temporary internet files. This will clear these from your system and will free up some space on your computer and will improve performance somewhat.
Check if your hard disk and registry has any problems.

For computers that operate on Windows XP or 2000 OS you can check your system for minor hard disk errors and repair them.
How do you do this? Right click the c drive and click properties then tools. Choose to check the computer for problems by clicking ‘check now’. You can then complete a file check or a physical disk check by selecting either of the two check boxes. This may take a while but is worth completing every now and then.

Ultimate Boot CD 4.1.1

For those of you interested in a Windows version of the Ultimate Boot CD, you might want to check out this project initiated by Ben Burrows.

Ultimate Boot CD is completely free for the download, or could be obtained for a small fee. If you had somehow paid a ridiculous amount of money for it, you have most likely been fleeced. The least you could do is to make as many copies of the offical UBCD and pass it to your friends, relatives, colleagues or even complete strangers to minimize the per unit cost of your loss!



You need the Ultimate Boot CD if you want to:

* Run floppy-based diagnostic tools from CDROM drives. More and more PCs are shipped without floppy drives these days, and it is such a royal pain when you need to run diagnostic tools on them.

* Free yourself from the slow loading speed of the floppy drive. Even if you do have a floppy drive, it is still much much faster to run your diagnostic tools from the CDROM drive, rather than wait for the tool to load from the floppy drive.

* Consolidate as many diagnostic tools as possible into one bootable CD. Wouldn't you like to avoid digging into the dusty box to look for the right floppy disk, but simply run them all from a single CD? Then the Ultimate Boot CD is for you!

Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC 4.0 is a very good program. It is a program which does some windows system maintenance like cleaning / deleting unnecessary files. It can also be used as a tool to monitor your network usage.
It has a "memory" page, where you can monitor the RAM / memory usage.
It can be used to optimize RAM, or clear some memory usage and dump it in the virtual memory. Now, it is not really a good idea of changing the memory usage of RAM / Virtual RAM. It slows down the whole of windows severely, if the memory usage is large. It is only useful, for it can free some unused memory (memory reserved for programs that are not running now, probably caused by unorthodox programming, etc), It is better to spend more money for additional memory for your computer.



The "Disk" page shows real-time usage of Disk Write and Disk Read in a graph, just like memory usage.

The "startup" page lists all the startup programs which you may edit as you like for a speedy startup. This program is not for a novice user! It doesn't show any remark for the startup program, whether it will slow down your system or not. One facility to test that by benchmarking would have been a great feature, but this one lacks it.

I like this program because I need to look my internet usage, as my broadband can draw some unnecessary cash if you don't monitor its usage at non free hours. "Internet" page shows your real-time network usage graph. It can only show traffic separately only if you have separate network hardware. Also, it cannot save any of that information. All info is lost at the restart of network or computer. Also, network data flow cannot be differentiated to that of internet usage (through a broadband for example)! It is also something that they should have implemented in it.
It can set settings to speedup internet, when you specify "2Mbps?, 512Kbps", etc in this page. It is a simple windows registry tweak!
